Session #12

The last Session #12 started with presentations of our first version of Elevator Pitch. Then we get feedback to improve our Elevator Pitch for future presentation. The improvements should be seen for example in

  • story of our project
  • team description and also team name
  • briefly pick important things in business description
  • to avoid technical details
  • to present future goals (3-6 years) or one year when we become profitable
  • to present current achievements (important is present not what was before)
  • funding objectives
  • metrics which are critical
  • gabs, risk factors and areas where we need help
The rest of the class the professor talked about Business Plan in detail. How we can succeed with our Business plan in front of investors. What are the main parts that investors are looking for such as Clarity (every points), Ability (to deliver what do you promise) and Profitability (business case). If is there any Sustainable Competitive Advantage and describe Value Proposition. Every team should chart the Competition the current one or the possible future one.

The last class was really helpful in terms of our final version of Elevator Pitch. Now we know what should we expect from the presentation and how to prepare ourselves as much as we can.

So check our blog for latest news and see what will happened on 16.1. 2014 when we will present THE FINAL ELEVATOR PITCH.

Any suggestions?
Do not forget to come later to check the results :)

Session #11

SESSION #11 started with the teams presentations regarding the work done during the week. After each presentation, Karina gave very useful advises for all team projects.
Later, Karina teached us how to prepare na impressive pitch. A good one should focus on these 10 main topics whitin the given pitch time.
•  Customers - Who are our clients? The pitch should also include some concrete examples of clientes.
•  Problem - What is the pain the business relieve? The pitch should clearly describe the problema faced by the potential clientes.

•  Solution - How will the business relieve the presented pain? Show the audience the value proposition of the business. In the pitch texto must be avoided, using instead diagrams, figures and pictures.

•  Tecnology - What's rhe technology used that makes the business run? The pitch must explain what is the magic potion behind the value proposition. Special alliances or partnerships that, at this point, allow the substance and execution of the idea.

•  Marketing and Sales - How to get the first 10 clients? In the pitch should be presented the main marketing activities,  partnerships that already exist and the go-to-market strategy

•  Competitors - What are the main competitors? It's importante never underestimate the competition. The investors want to know why the company is better and not why the competition is weak.

•  Team - Who are the team members? Include mentors, partners, suppliers as long as they bring credibility. All teams have limitations •  What matters at this point is to know what are those limitations and improve from there.

•  Traction - Related with the acquisition, activation, retention and recommendation metrics.

•  Financial - What are the main indicators and assumptions? Estimate for the next 3 years and guarantee that the audience understands the indicators and assumptions.

•  Calendar - What was done already? What is intended for the next months? Key indicators and drivers, Team growth, Client growth and Geographical expasion must be presented.

Session #10

As usual in all classes we started with the team presentations. With our presentation we showed what we did last week and the work in progress, obtaining then the professors feedback.
The theme of this session was Cost structure, Financial plans and Capital needs.
Professor João introduced the first topic by explaining what is the model of a cost structure, what are the resources  with a greater impact on it and what are the most expensive activities.
The answer to these questions varies from project to project. We have four typed of costs:
·        Fixes costs (E.g: wages)
·        Variable costs( E.g: Marketing)
·        Economies of scape
·        Economies of scale
It’s important to have in mind that in the beginning companies should not have heavy fixed costs , so it is much better to have more variable cost instead.
Regarding the second topic, Financial plans we saw that it is an important tool to watch over all actions, plans and decisions made in the business model, and this will allows the companies to be profitable and get funded.  This financial plans need to  reflect the model and business plan appropriately, be useful for making investment decisions and based on facts and future expectations and not just on "gut feelings".
We have to translate the financial plan into monetary units which has 3 important components:
·        Income statement (where Results = Income – Expenditure)
·        Balance sheet ( Equity = Assets – Liabilities)
·        Cashflow statement (  Δ CF = Oper. CF + Invest. CF + Financ. CF)
The last topic of this lesson was about Capital Needs  where we can see the source of founding ( founders, friends and family, angels, venture capitalists, acquisitions &equity markets, and banks) and its relation between time and risk. We talked a little bit about each source in order to have a clear idea about it.
In the end of this class we also talked about the pitch.
These are the topics in what we are going to work this week. We are also intending to change some things in our business model. However we are going to present it on next Thursday and then upload it on the blog!

Work in Progress - Business Model 3.0, Assumptions and New Hypothesis, Financial Analysis and Pitch preparation

During this week we are developing the Business Model 3.0 after changing the Business concept due to the results of the market research. Also, we are making some assumptions to the new Business Model based on the previous tests performed and we are defining new hypothesis that are fundamental to validate the Business Model 3.0.

Additionally we are developing the financial part of the Business Plan and...

We are designing our first PITCH :D

Do not forget to come later to check the results :)

Business Model #3 Main Idea

The facts presented in the last post motivated us to think about a new business model for UNI-Clean that could satisfy the students need and that could be feasible having in mind the two aspects presented above.

UNI-clean aims to connect students and housekeepers near their home, combining geolocation, ratings and recommendations of past clients.

What do you think?
